In this guide, you will find everything you need to know before enabling Developer Mode on Fera, including how it works, when to use it, and its impact on review requests and submissions.

Why use Development Mode?

  • Use Developer Mode when you're still setting up Fera for a client and need to test features without affecting billing.

  • Ideal for developers building an app or integration and testing functionality on a development store.

Key Differences Between Developer Mode and Regular Mode

1. Submissions

Developer Mode: If a merchant submits a review the submission will be marked as a "test."

Regular Mode: If a merchant submits a review, it will be recorded as a regular submission.

2. Name/Email Requirement

In Developer Mode, a name and email are always required, even if your review form doesn’t normally ask for them. In regular mode, submissions follow the settings configured in your review form.

3. Billing Limits

In developer mode, submissions don’t affect your billing, so you can test freely. In regular mode, every submission is recorded and applied to your plan’s limit.

How Does Developer Mode Affect Review Requests?

  • Will Fera ask customers who have already reviewed?

Normally, Fera won’t ask a customer to review a product or store again if they’ve already submitted a review. In Developer Mode, this feature is disabled, so automated requests will still be sent.

  • Will Fera ask for reviews on repeat orders?

By default, Fera won’t ask the same customer to review a product more than once per year. In Developer Mode, this rule is turned off, allowing repeated review requests.

How to enable Development Mode?

You must be a Fera Partner in order to enable development mode. If you're not a partner you can easily signup as a partner here.

Once you've confirmed that you're a partner and your partner account has been approved by Fera admin (which takes 0-24 hours):

  • Go to the Developers Settings.

  • Under the Developer options you'll see an option to enable Development Mode.

  • Flip the switch to turn it on.

  • Click Save.

How to Submit Reviews in Developer Mode

To submit a review in Developer Mode, follow these steps:

  1. Submit a Test Review:
You can submit a test review to check the functionality. For detailed instructions, refer to the Submit a Test Review guide.

2. Test a Review Submission:
If you need to test the entire review submission process, including how the

review appears, check out the How to Test a Review Submission article for step-

by-step instructions.

Who Should Use Developer Mode?

Developer Mode is recommended only for developers or partners who need to test and troubleshoot widgets, integrations, and submissions.

Important📢: If merchants turn on Developer Mode, they won’t be able to turn it off themselves and will need to contact customer support.
