If you're using Fera's SMS campaigns to collect customer reviews, you’ll first need to make sure your Shopify store is set up to collect phone numbers and receive SMS marketing consent at checkout.

Step-by-Step: Enable SMS Marketing Consent in Shopify Checkout

1. Enable SMS Marketing in Your Checkout Settings

In your Shopify Admin:

  • Go to Settings → Checkout

  • Scroll to the Consent for marketing section

  • Make sure the “SMS” option is toggled on

This allows customers to enter their phone number and opt-in to receive SMS messages at checkout. Don't forget to click "Save" at the top of your screen.

2. Click Customize labels (top-right corner of the Checkout settings page)

This opens Shopify's label editor. From here, we can customize the messaging shown next to the SMS marketing checkbox.

3. Scroll to the Checkout & system section

Look for the field:

Checkout marketing SMS consent label

This text appears beside the SMS checkbox in the checkout form.

📝 Example:

"I agree to receive SMS messages about shipping updates, my order, and related services."

4. (Optional) Customize the subtext that appears after a customer checks the box

This is controlled via:

Checkout marketing SMS consent disclaimer

This text only appears after a customer enters their phone number and checks the SMS opt-in box.

📝 Example:

"Message and data rates may apply. You can unsubscribe at any time."

Leaving this blank will default to Shopify’s standard disclaimer.

What it Looks Like on Your Store

With this setup:

  • Customers can enter their phone number at checkout

  • A checkbox appears asking for SMS marketing consent

  • After checking the box, optional subtext is shown

  • You can now send SMS review requests using Fera
